High Wire Woman Summer Road Trip Series

Fingers Lakes/Keuka Lake

It’s no secret that I love to travel.  We’ve been traveling since Salvatore was three years old and cherish the memories we’ve made in the process.  Disney is our very favorite destination, but we also love NYC, Boston, and San Diego.

COVID-19 has out a damper on this year’s travel plans.  But you can’t keep a High Wire Woman down and out!  I decided to readjust my vacation lens and travel somewhere closer to home.  I rented a house on Keuka Lake with a good friend.  Keuka Lake is one of the Fingers Lakes and is just stunning.  Small town, gorgeous lake, good wineries, and fresh air.  It was a two-hour drive from my home but felt like a world away.

We did nothing for two days.  We enjoyed the lake house.  Sat on the deck overlooking the lake.  Talked. Read.  Ate cookies.  Drank.  I took a two-hour nap and slept in both days.  It was glorious.  I had a view of the tranquil lake from my bed!  It was one of the best vacations of my life because it fed my soul.

I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time relaxing in my home.  Everywhere I look, there is something to do.  Laundry. Bills, Clutter.  Groceries.  Travel is my escape from reality.  It allows me to clear my head and just enjoy new surroundings.  I can toss my to-do list and just relax.

While you may not be able to travel this summer, I challenge you to find one new place that you’ve never explored.  It could be a new park or walking trail.  Somewhere outside.  Take 30 minutes for yourself this week and get out there and discover.  Pack a sandwich, a good book or magazine and leave your phone in the car.  Simply sitting somewhere in nature is relaxing and healing.   Take the time and enjoy the fleeting summer days.
